School uniform has been a problem around for quite a while now. Lots of people do not like uniforms, lots of people do like uniforms. But I bet people more fortunate than others do not like uniforms but others do for several reasons. My opinion on this topic is that we should have uniforms. When students wear school uniforms, they are showing respect, pride and how they are unified to their schools. Also, these students wearing the uniforms reduce the risk of getting beat up. Many times I hear about how a kid gets beat up for something like their shoes after school. Now if we all have the same clothes, shoes, and equipment, we would not be in danger of having those things taken away from us. When kids come to school with these new sneakers and designer clothes, that is somewhat like showing off and attracts the enemy even more. That's like an invitation as in saying "come, take my things". Well, how about if some people can not afford these expensive uniforms or replace them as some of you would say. What I think is that it is way better for one to have to buy a school uniform, whether cheap or expensive, than to keep buying clothes for school every month or so. What uniforms do is save up more of your own money and time. If these kids spent half of the time they do worrying about their school work than what they are going to wear, then their grades would probably raised higher. Uniforms cause less problems than all these situations. Some people say that people that are FOR school uniforms violate the students way of freedom of expression and the free public education. Right now I dont think we really need freedom of expression. For now all we need is education. We have all our whole life to express ourselves and now isnt the time. It's the time for education only and we jus need to concentrate on that. There is a place and a time for every attire and also these uniforms are also going to teach you in the future how to dress. For example, at a job, you wear a suit and tie but for a party, you can wear what ever you want. We wear out uniforms for only a short period of time anyway. Also with uniforms, you would have less hassle in the morning deciding what you have to wear and teachers could concentrate more in teaching instead of being wardrobe police. In conclusion, I think that it is easier and causes less problems if we all have uniform. Others may think different but the ones who think different may have it better than others. We have to leard some discipline and organization. This is just one way we learn them and see how it turns out! -ElSa Tsegai
